“We are not going to act to please the charlatans who are telling us from abroad, and those who fled, who wanted to privatize everything. Why I am so sensitive to enterprises is not because I do not understand that private property should and can exist.

But nowhere, in any country, has there been fair privatization. If we plunge our country and 10 million people into this whirlpool, and then go gasping and groaning, realizing that we have gone to the wrong place, this will be without me and, I’m sure, without you,” Lukashenko concluded.

The public sector in Belarus accounts for 80% of the country's economy.
