Korsunsky believed that Ukraine and Japan have a common enemy – Russia.

“Japan has revised and published a strategic document that concerns defense policy. Experts assessed this as simply a revolution, because for the first time since World War II it was written that Japan should have the right to attack the enemy first if it has reliable information that it will be attacked. The so-called pre-emptive strike - this has never happened, it is written.

Now we are talking about the fact that Japan has almost doubled its military budget and will now seriously deal with the issue of re-equipping its Armed Forces, more precisely, its self-defense forces, but everyone has the feeling that Japan will return to the arms market and will return to change its status its Armed Forces, self-defense forces - this will happen over time, this is a complex political process, you don’t need to think that this will happen tomorrow, but the war in Ukraine has radically changed the concept of security as Japan sees it... This feeling is that we have one enemy. They have Russia, China, North Korea nearby, and they all have questions about security policy,” Korsunsky said.

As a reminder, Russia and Japan never signed a peace treaty following World War II that would address the border issue. For example, the countries consider several Kuril Islands to be disputed. Recently, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine refused to recognize Russia's sovereignty over the Kuril Islands, claiming they belong to Japan.
