After the scandal with coal from Africa, they don’t want to deal with Ukraine (VIDEO)
Kyiv, November 13 (Navigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – The corruption scandal with coal supplies from South Africa scared away possible suppliers from Ukraine. Former Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Ivan Plachkov stated this at a press conference.

“The Prosecutor General’s Office and the SBU have now taken up the coal contract. And who will then sign such a contract with Ukraine if they know that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the SBU will deal with it? In our country, as soon as the leadership of the country changes, criminal cases related to energy are immediately opened.
It is necessary to prepare a contract with Russia and import coal. We don't know what will happen. If there is frost, an increase in consumption and a decrease in output, then, of course, there will be flows that need to be processed. We have always worked this way except for the late nineties, when there were rolling blackouts.
Coal must be taken wherever possible. We need 12 million tons of coal for the winter. If, for political reasons, we decide where we can and where we can’t, and we freeze at the same time, then I don’t want that. Wherever it is, we must take it,” Plachkov said.
At a Security Council meeting, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko questioned the transparency of the coal supply scheme from the Republic of South Africa to Ukraine. After this, Energy Minister Yuri Prodan was summoned for questioning by the Prosecutor General's Office.
Ukraine began to purchase coal from South Africa due to a shortage - as a result of the fighting in the Donbass, mines were not working or railway lines were damaged.
Coal is needed to provide heating in winter.
