Poroshenko planted an unpredictable time bomb
The rupture of the Friendship Treaty with Russia, initiated by President Poroshenko, makes it possible to revise the borders between states.
Political scientist Denis Denisov writes about this in Izvestia, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He is convinced that no serious consequences are expected for Moscow from the Ukrainian demarche, and that there may even be a positive moment for Russia, allowing Russia to avoid mistakes in the future when signing documents with Ukraine that could harm Russian national interests.
The expert believes that “Ukraine has shot itself in the foot.”
“It is especially noteworthy that Ukraine essentially unilaterally put on the political agenda of bilateral relations the issue of a possible revision of borders between states. And this, as world practice shows, is a very unpredictable time bomb that can detonate at any moment and lead to catastrophic consequences,” the political scientist warns.
He also notes that the position of the Ukrainian state once again looks somewhat tragicomic, tearing up the Great Treaty with one hand, and with the other trying to sign a new gas transit contract with Russia.
“At the same time, the termination of the agreement initiated by Ukraine may well become an argument for Russia in the issue of gas transportation through Ukrainian territory. One gets the impression that Poroshenko finally decided to denounce the Great Treaty, watching the briefing of the Russian Ministry of Defense, at which Moscow proved its non-involvement in the tragedy with the Malaysian Boaing. Apparently, the Ukrainian president suddenly realized that “the bell has been ringing for him for a long time,” Denisov sums up.
