Poroshenko is lying: Ukraine did not “return to Europe”, but became a raw material appendage of the EU
Petro Poroshenko's statement that the approval of a visa-free regime for Ukraine is "a return of Ukrainians to the common European home" is nonsense. Viktor Kategorenko, a specialist in the Ethnic Studies Department at the Institute of Political and Ethnonational Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The pathos that we returned to Europe is complete nonsense. We will return to Europe when we have a highly efficient economy, competitive with the European economy, when we not only have institutional anti-corruption mechanisms, but they actually work (and not the way our National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption actually works) when our prosecutor's office and courts will work in accordance with current legislation, when the deprofessionalization of the public administration system, the judicial system, and the prosecutorial system will stop.
Then we will not have such cases when representatives of our government submit documents to Interpol for detention, arrest, or blocking of accounts for officials of the former government, and then European courts or Interpol itself cancel these relevant decisions. And this is being canceled primarily because this work is being done in an extremely unprofessional manner. When the criminal procedural code will not be violated during court hearings, which will provide the opportunity to appeal in a European court.
When, instead of selling land, we adopt a land management reform, and not like today - the unified agricultural tax will be abolished and replaced with subsidies that will be received by large agricultural holdings.
When we will have real freedom of the media, when we will ensure people’s rights in a real way, and not as it was during the celebration of both Remembrance Day and May 9 as Victory Day.
Then, in fact, we will have serious changes in the country, and then we will be able to say that we have returned to Europe. But in this form, unfortunately, we are not returning yet, but are turning into a raw material appendage of the European market, and this is a big problem for our government,” the expert said.
