Kyiv, February 18 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he issued the order to withdraw Ukrainian troops from Debaltseve yesterday at 13:00.

According to him, after this the operation was prepared, and the withdrawal began at 0:30. At 6:00 the first units reached new frontiers.

During a speech at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, he emphasized that the military was retreating in four columns, and “paratroopers, special forces, and combat patrols ensured a safe retreat.”

“This is a very complex, but quite successful operation,” Poroshenko said.

According to him, 2475 military personnel - the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard and the Ministry of Internal Affairs - were withdrawn from Debaltseve. During the retreat, 6 people were killed and more than a hundred were injured.
