Poroshenko found a new reason for PR in Donbass
The law on the so-called “reintegration” of Donbass, adopted by the Rada, was not initially aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

Political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to understand the logic: when this law was adopted, it was intended, on the one hand, to play the role of a kind of “smokescreen” for the authorities, that is, it provided an opportunity for some jingoistic groups to close down topics about the Minsk agreements. The authorities tried to solve the problem of jingoistic groups with this law. “This was all done with the expectation that it would be possible to close the criticism that by adopting this law, the government, under pressure from the West, is trying to take some steps towards a peaceful settlement, for example, adopting a law in the fall to extend the special status,” Yakubin said.
In addition, the political scientist emphasized that negotiations between Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov and US State Department representative Kurt Volcker are also making some progress.
“On the other hand, the adoption of this law was necessary for Pyotr Alekseevich in order to promote himself that he graduated from the ATO. This was one of his promises to the presidential campaign in 2014. Now he can rightfully say that he graduated from the ATO, as he promised,” the political scientist concluded.
