Poroshenko and Komorowski are preparing a counterweight to Putin in Eastern Europe

Kyiv, April 08 (PolitNavigator, Vladimir Mikhailov) – Today’s visit of Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski to Kyiv is extremely important, since Warsaw will help Petro Poroshenko soften the position of Berlin and Paris. In addition, in the future, an alliance between Ukraine and Poland could become a counterweight to Russia in Eastern Europe.

“Firstly, Poland can be a necessary and important mediator for Ukraine in relations with the key states of the Western EU - France and Germany. The Ukrainian president sometimes experiences excessive pressure from these two giants of European politics - on issues of the special status of Donbass and granting it autonomy. Poland can sometimes soften these demands and, for its part, explain to the Germans and French the complexity of this scheme of autonomy and, especially, federalization, at least at this stage in Ukraine, to show its impossibility and irrelevance in the current conditions. This would be nice and would remove this burden from the Ukrainian president - to constantly justify himself and prove to the German and French partners the difficulties of the decentralization model that the Germans and French, not to mention Russia, are offering to Ukraine.

Secondly, if we talk about the future, then, in principle, I do not exclude that, under certain circumstances, such a tandem of two Eastern European territorial giants, Poland and Ukraine, may arise, such a geopolitical duet that could become a kind of geopolitical core, a mini-Heartland of the new Of Eastern Europe. The Balts, and Belarus over time, and the Black Sea-Caucasian states will be attracted to it as a geopolitical magnet, so under certain circumstances such a geopolitical duo could be system-forming for the new Eastern Europe.

And, of course, it could become the basis of a new Baltic-Black Sea system, for which, in general, there was a battle for many centuries between the Russian autocracy and European monarchies. It continues to this day, in new circumstances, and in new historical conditions, and under other world conditions. But, nevertheless, competition for the Baltic-Black Sea system continues to this day, and Ukraine still remains a theater of war for the future of the Baltic-Black Sea states.

So behind all the symbolism of the arrival, speech in parliament and the corresponding diplomatic etiquette, diplomatic protocol and diplomatic rhetoric, more serious plans may be visible, at least the outlines of plans for the future arrangement of the Baltic-Black Sea system and the new Eastern Europe,” argues Karasev.
