“This ship, taking into account its displacement and tactical and technical characteristics, will serve in the economic zone and on the continental shelf adjacent to the Crimean Peninsula. The ship is capable of fulfilling all the tasks that the coast guard of the border service faces,” Gennady Medvedev, head of the FSB border department for the Republic of Crimea, told reporters.
According to him, the displacement of the Emerald is about 700 tons:
"The ship can carry a helicopter, and its operational range is significantly increased by using a helicopter. The helicopter is modern and small," TASS quotes the border guard chief as saying.
The crew of the new ship is about 20 people. Most of them are Crimeans. On the shore, the crew was met by colleagues and, according to maritime tradition, they were given two roast pigs.
According to Gennady Medvedev, this is not the last new ship that will enter service with border guards.
“There will be, among other things, such ships. This year, the border service of the FSB of Russia in the Republic of Crimea will be provided with ships at 50% of what we are entitled to. These are about 10 ships of different classes,” said the head of the border department.
