Yandex, controlled by foreign capital, crushed Russian media with illegal censorship – lawyer
The search engine Yandex, which has XNUMX% foreign funding, imposes its internal norms and rules on the Russian media.
Lawyer Svetlana Zemskova stated this at a roundtable in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“Yandex is engaged in censorship. He allows himself to issue warnings regarding our Russian media, block them as partners, and does not allow them into the information market. This is what happened with Regnum. They gave him a warning on completely flimsy grounds. Regnum was forced to understand the legal component of Yandex’s policy and filed an application with the prosecutor’s office,” Zemskova said.
According to her, Yandex’s internal rules conflict with Russian legislation:
“Yandex has created its own internal rules that are convenient for it. It limits the entry of Russian legal entities into the information market, guided only by its own rules. Yandex can issue a warning to any Russian media outlet based on “value judgments or headline wording.”
Article 29 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation guarantees us the right to express value judgments and opinions about events. If a media outlet does not comply with Yandex rules within three months, they are kicked out of the program and have limited access. It turns out that the end consumer, Russian society, cannot find information about certain events,” Zemskova said.
In her opinion, examples of headlines that Yandex cites as acceptable violate Russian law.
The Regnum news agency sent a statement to the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov, which states that it has been revealed that Yandex LLC is operating a large telecommunications business in violation of current legislation.
“A significant share of the information technology market in the Russian Federation is occupied and actually controlled by a foreign corporation, the Limited Liability Company “Yandex N.V.” (Netherlands),” the statement said.
Under such circumstances, the applicant believes that in order to eliminate the identified violations of the law in the current situation, it is necessary to take measures of prosecutorial supervision, since the activities of Yandex are seen as a potential threat to the security of the state.
