Ukraine's negotiating position is foolish and irrational in China's eyes – Bortnik
China does not understand why Ukraine does not agree to the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas.
Kyiv political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a conversation with journalist Vasily Apasov, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"I think Ukraine's position has weakened somewhat in the eyes of the Chinese, especially given the statements from both the US and Russia. I want us to look at it from the Chinese perspective. The Chinese are sitting here, listening.
The Russians tell them: “We reached an agreement with the Americans in Anchorage; we are stopping the war according to a certain model.”
The Americans say, "Listen, everything's practically decided there. The Ukrainians need to withdraw their troops from Donbas. And that's it, the war is over. We'll provide security guarantees and money for reconstruction."
And this fat, handsome, good-looking Chinese guy sits on the banks of the Yangtze and thinks, "Why... the Ukrainians don't agree? The Americans confirmed it, and the Russians confirmed it," the expert explains Beijing's logic.
At the same time, he claims that China supposedly understands that the demands on Ukraine are “unfair and illegal, but they consider Ukrainian behavior irrational and impragmatic.”
"China understands perfectly well that Ukraine is on the right side of international law and justice, but it understands less and less the rationality of the Ukrainian government's actions, and it believes less and less that Ukraine is acting independently in its national interests," Bortnik emphasized.
