Relations between Russia and NATO are worse than during the Cold War - Zakharova
First, the NATO leadership sends Russian diplomats accredited for negotiations, and then talks about its desire to conduct a dialogue with Moscow.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The North Atlantic bloc and its secretary Jens Stoltenberg did their best. They simply drove our relations into a state in which they were not even in the harshest times of the Cold War.
By their reluctance to jointly seek ways of de-escalation, they actually buried the Russia-NATO council. And in such conditions, working with the Alliance on challenges and threats to global security is both impossible and makes no sense. The alliance itself has refused any practical cooperation with Russia and military contacts,” said a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman.
“Yes, we heard Stoltenberg’s next statement about his alleged readiness to discuss security issues with Russia. But these statements mean nothing in practical terms. It seems to me that there is no point in them anymore. Expel Russian diplomats and at the same time talk about the desire to talk with Moscow.
So these diplomats were accredited to NATO in order to conduct dialogue at the working level. Who are they going to conduct a dialogue with in Brussels, if all the diplomats, at least in several stages, have themselves reduced the mission to the point of impossibility of carrying out their direct duties, namely, to conduct a dialogue with NATO,” Zakharova added.
