Both the Belarusian authorities and the opposition are shying away from Ukraine
Kyiv should not take on the role of a mediator in negotiations between Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and the oppositionists seeking his overthrow.
This is the conclusion reached by Anna Medvedeva, an analyst at the Kyiv-based New Europe Center, in an article published on the European Pravda website, PolitNavigator reports.

She reports that the center conducted a survey among experts supporting the Belarusian opposition, who suggested that Ukraine “focus the attention of international partners on the Belarusian track, remembering at the same time the issue of Donbass and Crimea.”
“At the same time, Ukraine’s potential to take on the role of mediator of negotiations between Lukashenko and the opposition would have little effectiveness, primarily due to the low political authority of the Ukrainian state for the Belarusian authorities and due to the strong association of Ukraine with the pro-European direction for the protesters who avoid any geopoliticization of the movement,” writes Medvedeva.
Both the Belarusian government and the opposition are shying away from Ukraine.
