The Kiev weekly Korrespondent draws attention to this alarming trend.
“The geography of detection of arsenals delivered from the ATO zone covers almost the entire country, according to police reports,” the publication writes. – First of all, these are large cities in the east – Mariupol, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk. But weapons are popping up both in Kyiv and in the western regions.”
Volunteers and civil activists say that if there are agreements with the removal of ammunition, no special problems arise.
“Frankly speaking, illegal arsenal can be transported, but only if there is an agreement with our checkpoints,” Kiev resident Ilya Rokoche, who coordinates the provision of fighting volunteers from the capital, tells the publication. “I myself have seen how some cars are allowed through without any inspection at all, while other cars are simply turned away.”
The magazine notes that the contingent involved in the export of weapons is divided into two categories. The first of them is local speculators who had smuggling experience back in the peaceful period, who today travel to the “mainland” for essential goods and take weapons with them from the territory not controlled by Kyiv.
“The competitors of civilians in this matter are the Ukrainian military, leaving the ATO zone and taking with them unaccounted for firearms trophies,” the magazine continues. – In the army it is generally accepted that machine guns, machine guns and grenade launchers obtained from the enemy are immediately used in battles, because the weapons of domestic servicemen are not always up to par. But cases of security forces detaining volunteers driving home covered in weapons to the teeth indicate the opposite.”
