Landfill landslide buries two people alive
Vinnitsa, December 24 (PolitNavigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – In the Vinnitsa region, two people died during a landslide at a landfill where they were looking for scrap metal.

Around four o'clock in the afternoon, Vinnytsia rescuers received a report that two men were buried under a layer of soil and debris at a solid waste landfill in the village of Strizhavka, Vesti.Vinnytsia reports.
Locals say that the dump, not far from Strizhavskaya colony No. 81, was often rummaged by unemployed and homeless people.
“This was once a clay quarry, but when it became unusable, all kinds of household waste began to be brought here. There are many metal parts and radio equipment containing non-ferrous metals. So everyone grazed to collect scrap and hand it over. People didn’t just dig there, but made entire tunnels, like in a mine,” the media quotes local resident Stanislava.
23-year-old Alexander and 37-year-old Ruslan, residents of Strizhavka, climbed to a depth of three meters for metal. Their 34-year-old comrade remained on the surface. He called an ambulance and rescuers to the scene of the tragedy.
“The men were dumped in a well three meters deep. 5 rescue teams of the State Emergency Service worked on the spot, but the chances of saving the men were scanty. They managed to excavate and raise the body to the surface around seven in the evening. Doctors only confirmed death, after which the bodies were handed over to law enforcement officers for identification,” the press service of the regional department of the State Emergency Service reported.
Now the causes of the tragedy are being determined by law enforcement officers.
As PolitNavigator reported, a landslide occurred in the Lviv region on December 5. As a result of the incident, one person died immediately, and two others were hospitalized with injuries.
