Let us recall that, as Navigator reported, Balaba burned several St. George ribbons in the flames of the Eternal Flame while laying flowers at the monument to the Unknown Sailor on March 30.
The deputies accused Balaba of vandalism and asked the prosecutor's office to either explain her act or respond to it in accordance with Ukrainian legislation. According to Rodintsy, if the activist realizes her wrongdoing and apologizes, then no one will seek criminal prosecution for her, reports the Timer publication.
Alena Balaba herself does not consider her actions to be vandalism, and therefore does not intend to apologize. “Those striped ribbons, which for some reason are called St. George’s ribbons, have nothing to do with the memory of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and veterans,” she said.
The public and political forces condemned Balaba’s actions, despite her explanations: she was fired from her post as press secretary of the regional organization of the UDAR party, and Right Sector even held a press conference at which she declared the inadmissibility of such behavior.
