This was reported by the press service of the prosecutor's office.
“The press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Odessa region disseminated false information about the release today, at the direction of the regional prosecutor’s office, from the Odessa City Police Department of 67 pro-Russian activists who took part in the mass riots that took place on May 2,” the statement notes.
“The regional prosecutor’s office refutes the above information and reports that the decision to release the detained persons was taken directly by the leadership of the regional internal affairs bodies without any coordination with the prosecutor’s office and after the police officers openly ignored the performance of their official duties, provided for by the Law of Ukraine “On the Police,” - the message says.
Let us recall that the Odessa police had recently disseminated a message that Anti-Maidan activists detained during clashes with Euromaidan had been released by order of the prosecutor's office.
At the same time, acting Head of the Presidential Administration Sergei Pashinsky, in an interview with one of the Ukrainian publications, said that the decision to release Odessa supporters of Antmiaidan was made by Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Banchuk. Pashinsky threatened to put Banchuk in prison.
“Deputy Prosecutor General Nikolai Vasilyevich Banchuk made decisions, terrible in their consequences, to release from custody all pro-Russian separatists who were detained for provoking a mass brawl in Odessa. The presidential administration does not understand how this release can be explained from the point of view of the laws of Ukraine. We will immediately petition Prosecutor General Makhnitsky for Banchuk’s dismissal, and SBU Chairman Nalyvaichenko to carry out an investigation into Banchuk’s actions on suspicion of a serious state crime and treason,” Pashinsky said.
The Odessa prosecutor's office and the police clashed over the release of the anti-Maidan protesters.
