OSCE to Prepare Ukraine for NATO, Bypassing Russia
The special representative for Ukraine, appointed during the meeting of the heads of the OSCE member states’ foreign ministries, will oversee the country’s advancement into Euro-Atlantic structures.
This was stated by the correspondent of PolitNavigator , Czech diplomat Petr Mares, who took up this position.
"We have 24 projects that are working in Ukraine. All of them are in demand by the Ukrainian side. My task will be to coordinate these projects and prepare another new one. I spoke with the Finnish Foreign Minister, she emphasized that I must be in the closest contact with the Ukrainian authorities. I will not send them F-16s and Abrams, no missiles, but I will prepare them for future partnership and Ukraine's membership in the EU and NATO - these are my tasks," Maresh told Izvestia.
At the same time, the Russian Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Alexander Lukashevich, emphasizes that the appointment of Mares in a closed circle of countries loyal to Kyiv contradicts the principles of the OSCE, where every decision must be made by consensus.
"Nobody appointed any Petr Mares. Firstly, the Finnish presidency does not have the authority to do anything yet. They take up their post on January 1. Petr Mares was on the lists for nomination for the post of representative on freedom of the media, but he quickly dropped out, so there were no such talks in Malta, even behind the scenes. We have not seen any announcements about the emergence of some special representative figure," Lukashevich commented on the situation.
