Not a day without a scandal: Another high-profile detention in Ukraine

Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov was detained at Kyiv's Boryspil Airport. He is suspected of embezzlement and abuse of office. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine is prosecuting the official under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

As Odessa journalist Natalya Sedletskaya reported in her blog, Trukhanov was abroad at the time he was put on the wanted list.

“Gennady Trukhanov flew from Warsaw to Kyiv this morning on a scheduled plane to Boryspil,” my sources at the airport said. The mayor of Odessa was immediately detained by border guards and handed over to employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine,” Sedletskaya said.
