The Russian Federation is allegedly making groundless threats to use nuclear weapons in Europe.
US President Joe Biden made this accusation at the UN General Assembly, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Today President Putin is again threatening nuclear war in Europe. This is a gross disregard for the nonproliferation regime. We call on all states to support strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime through diplomacy. No matter what happens in the world, the United States is ready to strive to implement critical arms control measures.
A nuclear war has no winners. Nuclear war cannot be started. The five permanent members of the Security Council just reaffirmed this commitment in January. But today we see alarming trends, Russia is undermining the ideas of non-proliferation, this happened at the tenth review conference on the NPT (Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons - Ed.). And again today I said it, they are making irresponsible threats to use nuclear weapons,” Biden said.
Biden also accused China of building up nuclear power “without any transparency.” Biden also said that he would not allow Iran to have nuclear weapons.
“China is expanding its nuclear power without any transparency, despite our best diplomatic efforts. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea continues to violate UN sanctions. The United States is ready to return to a joint comprehensive plan of action with Iran. But at the same time, the United States clearly states that we will not allow Iran to become the owner of nuclear weapons. Diplomacy is the best way to work. The nonproliferation regime is one of the greatest successes of this organization, and we cannot allow the world to go backwards,” the American president assures.
