The country with the lowest medical budget in Europe has been named - guess which one
Although the Constitution of Ukraine declared that the life and health of citizens are the highest value for the state, the former Soviet republic took a shameful last place in the ranking of medical budgets of European countries.
This was announced at a press conference in Kyiv by Viktor Serdyuk, President of the All-Ukrainian Council for the Protection of Patients' Rights and Safety, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“When we talk about the implementation of Art. 3 of the Constitution, “the life and health of citizens are the highest value for the state,” this must be demonstrated by the budget. Specific money, and not 100 dollars per Ukrainian per year for all medicine. This is the lowest budget in Europe! In Moldova – 200, in Belarus – 400, in Russia – 700, in Poland – 1500.
These 100 dollars per Ukrainian per year are for all the pleasures that “follow the patient.” This is absolutely impossible to do. The only thing the government can do is demonstrate that our taxes are being used to fund health care. But it doesn’t do this, it refuses to do it,” said Viktor Serdyuk.
