The destruction of vineyards began due to the economic crisis
The difficult economic situation and the cessation of state support have led to a serious crisis in the Ukrainian viticulture sector.
An agricultural market expert who wished to remain anonymous spoke about this in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent.

Previously, winegrowers were reimbursed for the funds spent on planting vineyards and caring for them in the fruiting stage through a one percent levy for the development of viticulture, gardening and hop growing. This program has now been discontinued. Last year, vineyards were not planted in some regions.
Falling grape prices have also affected the industry. In 2014, the profitability of winegrowing farms did not exceed 5-7%; some winegrowers worked at a loss. The price of wine materials has also fallen sharply.
According to the expert, some farms began uprooting vineyards at a productive age. Now the profit per hectare of vineyard is, at best, 5 thousand UAH. which is several times lower compared to other agricultural crops. This could lead to the fact that in the foreseeable future Ukraine will be left without its own grapes, the expert believes.
