The West is confident that their help gave Ukraine an advantage over Russia in cyber warfare
With the help of Western countries, official Kyiv managed to establish cyber defense and reduce the number of successful hacker attacks and itself went on the offensive in the cyber war, as a result of which Russia lost its advantage over Ukraine in cyberspace.
The American publication The Wall Street Journal writes about this , citing sources among current and former Western officials.
Western intelligence officials and security analysts quoted by the publication say that a number of factors limited the influence of Russian hackers during hostilities. But many point to U.S.-led efforts to share intelligence, train Ukrainian personnel in cybersecurity, bulletproof Ukraine's network defenses, and strengthen its critical infrastructure against cyberattacks. It has also fueled interest in greater international cooperation.
Last Thursday, Ukraine's cyber defense agency announced a new memorandum of cooperation with Romania in the field of cyber defense to increase the exchange of information on cyber incidents and vulnerabilities, among other areas of cooperation. The announcement follows a similar announcement between Ukraine and Poland last month.
U.S. Cyber Command has deployed cyber defense teams to allied countries, including Ukraine last year, to identify threats to critical computer networks and train those countries how to defend them.
Last month, Cyber Command said it had completed 35 search operations in 18 countries, including Croatia, Estonia, Lithuania, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
The war in Ukraine, The Wall Street Journal writes, has forced some Western countries to at least temporarily put aside some of their differences over technology policy in favor of treating collective cybersecurity as a top priority.
