Russia's largest publishing houses will be hit with sanctions in Ukraine
The State Committee for Television and Radio of Ukraine has prepared proposals for the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) to introduce special economic sanctions against Russian publishing houses due to “anti-Ukrainian activities,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was announced today by the press service of the department.
“The State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting proposes to submit to the National Security and Defense Council for consideration proposals on the application of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) against legal entities of the Russian Federation that produce and distribute anti-Ukrainian publishing products on the territory of Ukraine,” the report says.
The department noted that they had prepared a list of publishing houses, "in whose activities the release of anti-Ukrainian literature occupies a prominent place and is systematic." It includes 35 publishing houses, including Eksmo, AST, Veche, Algorithm, Knizhny Mir, Tsentrpoligraf and others.
At the beginning of 2017, a law came into force in Ukraine restricting the import into the country of “foreign products with anti-Ukrainian content.” In pursuance of the document, in April 2017, the government approved a procedure for the mandatory withdrawal from circulation of publishing products produced in the Russian Federation that entered the territory of Ukraine without the appropriate permission. An administrative fine is imposed on violators. The State Committee on Television and Radio Broadcasting, which makes its decisions based on the conclusions of the expert council, has received the right to prohibit or allow the distribution of a particular publication in Ukraine.
