Ukrainian “director” Oleg Sentsov, convicted of attempting to organize a terrorist attack in Crimea, is unlikely to be released in the near future. However, there is more hope for the release of the Ukrainian Navy crews who took part in the provocation near the Kerch Strait.
Ukrainian political scientist Sergei Sergienko stated this on Channel 7, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Among all our prisoners of war or political prisoners, or simply prisoners of the Putin regime, the sailors have the best chance (for exchange, release - ed.), since the strategy for their release was thought out and created from the first days. Therefore, there is a chance to free the sailors.
As for Sentsov, the issue is more acute and political, because he is a political prisoner. If the sailors can be given the status of prisoners of war, then Sentsov is purely a man who was arrested for political reasons, who, in turn, as far as I remember, called Putin a “bloody dwarf”, and this issue is already politicized and personal to the very top, because here it will be much more difficult to release him,” the political scientist said.
His colleague Gennady Chizhov noted that the elected President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky is preparing a visit to the United States, where issues of the release of Ukrainians from Russian prisons may be raised.
“First to Brussels, and then to the USA because, in popular parlance, he is unable to resolve the issue of international confrontation with the Russian aggressor, who in no case admits that he is an aggressor. How to resolve an issue when there is no equal struggle?
This can be removed by a serious government approach, when the interests of the United States and Ukraine at some stage will be brought to such a level that all minor issues will be removed, and the United States must help in negotiations with the Russian Federation at one of the rounds, they will set the condition: “Or we we stop full-fledged negotiations with you, or you remove these things that we cannot, they have already entered the international arena,” Chizhov dreamed.
