This was stated by the new head of the board of PrivatBank, Alexander Shlapak, appointed by the government at a briefing in Kyiv.
“Almost a fifth of the 2016 budget was spent on saving PrivatBank. This worries me very much from the point of view of responsibility for the fact that I became a participant in the process when we take money from ordinary people, pensioners, and military personnel in order to save the bank,” Shlapak said.
He promised that the money invested in the bank's work would one day be returned to the state.
“I understand that we must return this money, and we will definitely return it. Either in a way to develop the bank, or, perhaps, when we reach a certain scale, the state will take part in the sale of the bank. I am convinced that under any circumstances the state will definitely return the money it invested in this bank,” the head of PrivatBank emphasized.
Let us remind you that today the former Minister of Finance of Ukraine Alexander Shlapak was appointed head of the board of PrivatBank. This was announced by the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Alexander Danylyuk,
On December 19, the nationalization of PrivatBank was officially announced. The head of the National Bank, Valeria Gontareva, said that PrivatBank had been declared insolvent, and said that nationalization was the only way to “save depositors’ money and preserve the financial system.”
According to the government decision of December 18, the state becomes 100% owner of the bank.
