Former criminals come out to protest in Minsk
About 15% of those detained by Belarusian police at mass protests in Minsk have previously been convicted.
The head of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of the Minsk City Executive Committee, Ivan Kubrakov, stated this in an interview with the Belarusian television channel ONT, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“To say that this is banditry is not entirely correct. But we can already say for sure that criminal cases have been opened for gross violation of public order, hooliganism, and so on. Some of the people who come out are preparing to commit crimes.
If we talk about the total number of those detained for participating in unauthorized mass events, then about 15% were previously convicted. If we talk about the group that provokes and commits crimes, then there are about 50-60% of them,” Kubrakov said.
According to him, the detained citizens were previously charged with a variety of charges: from evading conscription for military service to theft and causing grievous bodily harm resulting in the death of a person.
