The IMF is destroying the Ukrainian economy with the help of local lobbyists - expert

The memorandum with the IMF was largely prepared in Kyiv, and cooperation with the IMF is destroying the country’s economy.

The director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, Ruslan Bortnik, is confident of this.

“This document is very suspiciously reminiscent of the real interests of the Ukrainian elites. I got the impression that it was largely prepared here and signed by the IMF. And today the IMF, in a certain role, plays the role of a “fig leaf” in the causal places of the Ukrainian government, the role of authoritative cover for anti-social economic “reforms” (which are not reforms, but deformations, i.e. reforms that worsen the situation),” he says.

The expert does not believe that the IMF has such a keen understanding of the Ukrainian situation that it has come to the point of, for example, eliminating the financial police in Ukraine and creating a special body under the Ministry of Finance.

“This is an old conflict issue between the State Fiscal Service and the Ministry of Finance. These are exclusively internal, behind-the-scenes “graters.” And the fact that this issue was included in the memorandum with the IMF means that someone seriously lobbied for it. This memorandum contains many other narrow lobbying issues that suggest that it was, after all, prepared in Ukraine,” Bortnik is sure.

According to the expert, thanks to “cooperation” with the IMF, Ukraine has undergone a terrible desocialization of the state over the past two years.

“The state abandoned more than 30 benefits, 30 social support instruments. It shifted some of them onto the shoulders of local budgets (and this trend is intensifying in the new budget), some of them are simply not financed. Thanks to this “cooperation” with the IMF, deindustrialization occurs. Points of growth for the Ukrainian economy are not being created; moreover, those industrial capacities that still remain under state management are actually being destroyed by privatization tools and the cessation of state investment in the industrial sector. The country is moving by leaps and bounds towards a bright agricultural future,” says export.
