Moscow legally formalizes the death of Ukrainian transit through Russia
The introduction of a ban on the import of livestock, poultry and livestock products from Ukraine into the territory of the Russian Federation will not in any way affect the economies of both countries, since the import and transit through the Russian Federation of these goods practically ceased in 2015, when both countries introduced sanctions against each other in this area .
President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center Alexander Okhrimenko told a PolitNavigator correspondent about this.
“The introduction of such a ban is not new. Back in 2015, the Svoboda party blocked Russian trucks that were in transit through Ukraine. Then a decision was made to ban the transit of Russian goods through Ukraine. Russia introduced a similar ban on Ukrainian transit, i.e. Ukraine has achieved that it has lost its transit to Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
When Svoboda first began its stupid initiative, experts warned that Ukraine would end up losing more. But they didn’t listen to them: “no, now Russia will fall apart,” etc.
Then Russia began to allow passage of some goods, including agricultural ones, but bans on their transit were subsequently introduced several times. Ukraine does not allow Russian agricultural goods to pass through. Maybe that’s why Russia began to introduce “targeted” bans. But even those goods that could be transported in transit through Russia were still not transported, since ties had already been severed, back in 2015.
Therefore, the current ban will have no consequences. Ukraine, through its actions, stopped its own transit through Russia back in 2015,” the economist said.
Let us remind you that from September 4, Rosselkhoznadzor banned the transit of livestock and poultry through the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as some types of livestock products from Ukraine. It is noted that this measure was taken to reduce the risks of the spread of African swine fever, highly pathogenic avian influenza, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy during the transportation of live animals and products through Russian territory.
Rosselkhoznadzor noted that it has repeatedly asked Ukraine to take measures to counter these diseases, but has not received a response. At the same time, cases of violations during the transit of live animals were recorded at the border. New restrictions will affect the transit of large and small ruminants, pigs, poultry and livestock products.
