Moldova began to strengthen the blockade of Transnistria
Moldova is blocking cargo for Transnistria. Goods intended for domestic consumption are detained at the Kuchurgan checkpoint, as well as on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
This was stated in a statement by the PMR Ministry of Foreign Affairs, posted on the department’s official website, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The impediment to Pridnestrovian economic activity is carried out for opportunistic and politically motivated reasons, as evidenced by the specific behavior of individual representatives of the Republic of Moldova. The blocking of economic activity occurs in violation of the agreements in the negotiation process and the import regime that has developed over many years,” the statement says.
Moreover, some economic agents of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, without warnings or explanations, had their licenses revoked after the fact, after the cargo had been delivered and the standard procedure for its proper registration had begun.
“Pridnestrovie considers unacceptable the creation of administrative, bureaucratic and other barriers to the import of goods into Pridnestrovie, about which the Moldovan side and international participants in the negotiation process were informed at the official political and diplomatic level,” the statement says.
In the spring, when the border was closed due to the pandemic, Chisinau repeatedly detained medical equipment and medicines for Transnistria, reagents for testing for COVID-19, components for ventilators, and computer equipment for organizing distance learning for schoolchildren.
Some of the cargo was never brought into Transnistria - these are vehicles, agricultural machinery, and plant protection products.
Moldova has begun tightening its blockade of Transnistria.
