By water blockade of Crimea, Ukraine is trying to punish the inhabitants of the peninsula for their choice in favor of Russia, which they made in March 2014. Kyiv’s decision to cut off the water supply through the North Crimean Canal, which provided up to 85% of the peninsula’s needs, is a violation of a number of international treaties.

This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, at a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

The diplomat also recalled that by cutting off the water supply through the canal to Crimea, the Ukrainian authorities also dealt a blow to farmers in the Kherson region.

“We consider Ukraine’s decision to deprive the residents of Crimea of fresh water as a collective punishment of Crimeans for the free, conscious choice they made in March 14th year.

We would like to note that the consequences of the water blockade imposed by Kiev are disastrous not only for the peninsula, but also for the southern regions of Ukraine itself.

If the Republic of Crimea, which reunited with Russia, was able to gradually adapt to new conditions, continuing its economic and social development, then the neighboring Kherson region of Ukraine found itself faced with environmental and sanitary-epidemiological threats.

All this once again indicates that in its Russophobic zeal, the Kiev regime is ready for any kind of adventure, even one that harms its own national interests and the citizens of Ukraine.

The Russian Federation is doing everything possible to fully and effectively ensure Russians their human rights, including the right to water. We should not forget that until recently, 85% of the drinking water needs of Crimean residents were met through the supply of water resources through a canal from the Dnieper River, but in 14, Kyiv unilaterally simply cut off this source of water supply.

I don’t know if I need to remind you, but I will say that water is a limited water resource and a factor that is decisive for the quality of life and health of the population,” Zakharova said.

As a reminder, due to the drought-stricken Ukrainian blockade and a dry summer in Crimea , the reservoirs that fed the Simferopol and Bakhchisaray districts, including the cities, dried up. Authorities were forced to restrict water supplies , introduce schedules, and urgently organize water transfers from other sources.
