Russian Foreign Ministry: There is no hope for recognition of the Russian status of Crimea by the West in the near future
Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election could improve Russia's relations with Europe. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov stated this today on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

“The European Union will have the opportunity to build its relations with Russia with less regard for the United States. Or maybe vice versa, with an eye on Trump. I mean his signals about relations with Russia. Let's see how Washington's foreign policy develops. I hope that there is enough political will in the European Union to bring our relations out of the impasse into which the EU has led them,” Chizhov said.
At the same time, the diplomat does not predict a complete restoration of relations with the EU at the pre-2014 level.
“The mood on the Crimean issue has not undergone any fundamental changes in the European Union and will not undergo any significant changes in the near future, even if everything else follows the path of normalization,” Chizhov said.
According to him, today most contacts with the EU are either frozen or downgraded to an expert level.
