Ukraine will face the threat of attack from Russia if the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is completed.
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project threatens the security of Ukraine and confirms Germany’s anti-European position.
The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Jacek Czaputowicz, stated this in an interview with the German business newspaper Handelsblatt.
“The pipeline is destroying the consequences of sanctions against Russia,” “Nord Stream 2” is killing Ukraine. When the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine is stopped, this country will lose not only serious profits, but, above all, a guarantee of protection against the next Russian aggression,” said the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry.
According to him, Poland, the United States and the European Commission are pro-European on this issue, and Germany is anti-European.
“Germany often thinks that the European position is identical to the German one, but in the case of Nord Stream this is not the case,” Czaputowicz said.
He also accused Germany and Austria of “deceptive maneuvers.”
Earlier, Ukrainian Ambassador to the United States Valeriy Chaly stated that Kyiv should not allow any compromises that Germany and Russia might propose regarding the future of the Ukrainian gas transmission system and the construction of Nord Stream 2.
Yuriy Vitrenko, Chief Commercial Officer of Naftogaz of Ukraine, also stated that when Russian gas transit to the EU through Ukrainian territory ceases, Ukraine will suffer economic losses amounting to 3 percent of its GDP , which is equal to the country's military budget.
