The Mejlis wants to hold an off-site meeting of its representative body, the kurultai, in Kyiv to approve a new composition for the group, which is banned in Russia. They also plan to expel members who recognized Crimea's status as Russian territory. This was announced at a press conference in Kyiv by former Mejlis leader and Verkhovna Rada deputy Refat Chubarov, according to a PolitNavigator correspondent.

We have appointed a Kurultai in Kyiv for November 12 of this year. We do not know how many delegates will be able to travel. But I think the decision will be this - about prolonging the activities of the delegates of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people, about approving and removing from membership in the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people several members of the Mejlis who have compromised themselves by collaborating with the occupation authorities and, if there is not a sufficient quorum, we We will send this decision to Crimea so that the delegates of the Kurultai of the Crimean Tatar people indicate their attitude to this decision - for or not,” Dzhemilev said.
