Markov: The Russian plan collapsed due to catastrophic mistakes
The plan for a rapid change of power in Ukraine collapsed due to the catastrophic political mistakes of the Russian side - Kyiv was again given the opportunity to deceive the Kremlin and use the respite, as was already the case with the Minsk agreements.
Russian political scientist Sergei Markov discusses this in his blog, analyzing the results of six months since the beginning of the Second World War in Ukraine, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“...A quick war did not work out. A protracted war of attrition began... The Russian plan to quickly capture major cities collapsed due to catastrophic political mistakes,” writes Markov.
He cites data from the Western press:
“The negotiations in Istanbul were a very cunning move, a deception of Moscow by Kyiv and Washington. This is how the Washington Post describes it in an article today. By mid-March, Ukraine was close to losing Kyiv to the Russian army because the Ukrainian Armed Forces ran out of shells. A pause was needed. And they decided to simply deceive Moscow with peace talks. Kyiv pretended that it was ready to make concessions and agree to Moscow’s demands for the demilitarization and neutralization of Ukraine. During these days of fake peace negotiations, thousands of Soviet shells were urgently transferred from warehouses in Eastern European countries. The Ukrainian Armed Forces have regained their strength. And after that the negotiations were disrupted by Kiev. Military operations were resumed in full. They deceived Moscow with Minsk 1. Then they deceived Moscow with Minsk 2. Then they deceived Moscow with Istanbul 3. Maybe that’s enough?” – Markov comments.
He draws attention to the fact that “a terrorist war has already begun against Russia, so far only from Ukraine.”
At the same time, “Russia is very slow with mobilization measures and is trying to wage a military defense, not a war,” the expert emphasizes.
