Such data is provided by the Lviv sociological group “Rating”, which published the corresponding results obtained in September 2017.

According to the results of the study, 54% of respondents expressed their readiness to defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine with arms in hand if a corresponding threat arises, which is almost twice as much as in 2012. Two-thirds of these are among residents of the Center and the West. In the South - half. But in the East, 52% said that they were not ready to defend their Motherland with arms in hand (26% were ready, 22% were undecided).

In addition, 59% of respondents support the idea of ​​establishing a national holiday as Defender of Ukraine Day on October 14, which was declared the founding day of the UPA.

At the same time, almost the same number of respondents (56%) do not support the idea of ​​canceling the celebration of Defender of the Fatherland Day on February 23, known as Soviet Army Day. Moreover, if there are more of the former in the West, then there are more of the latter in the South and East.

49% of respondents support the idea of ​​recognizing the OUN-UPA as participants in the struggle for state independence of Ukraine, 29% do not support (41% and 38%, respectively, compared to 2015), almost a quarter of respondents are undecided on the answer. Since the start of research in 2010, the level of support for this initiative has increased 2,5 times, sociologists indicate. In the West, support for this idea is greatest – 80%. half of the respondents in the Center also support recognition of the OUN and UPA. At the same time, almost half of the residents of the East and South do not support this idea.

The thesis that during the Second World War the soldiers of the Soviet army defended their Motherland is supported by the absolute majority of respondents (90%), while the thesis that during the Second World War the OUN-UPA soldiers defended their Homeland

53% support. At the same time, the level of support for the latter thesis increased by one and a half times compared to 2012. Supporters of the idea that the OUN-UPA defended their homeland are more numerous among young people, men, peasants, Ukrainian speakers and Westerners.

The study was conducted on September 20–29 among the Ukrainian population aged 18 and older. A total of 2000 respondents were interviewed using personal interviews. The representativeness error is no more than 2,2%.
