Lukashenko decided to meet with Putin after all
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko wants to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on February 7.
He stated this today during a visit to Dobrush, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Most likely, on February 7 we will meet with President Putin. As I understand it, and I will speak to him about this openly, a certain moment of truth has arrived. We created this good relationship with him. We were the architects of these relationships, should we break them at the end of our political career? We are not eternal. What will we leave behind – that is the question,” Lukashenko said.
At the same time, he once again reproached Russia for allegedly breaking its promises to leave domestic gas prices for Belarus for 5 years after the privatization of Beltransgaz.
As the unofficial telegram channel of the Belarusian president “Pul Pervogo” clarifies, the meeting will take place in Sochi.
The presidents were previously expected to meet at the end of January. However, Lukashenko postponed his trip to meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Today he said that “the period of cold in Belarusian-American relations is over.”
“In Russia they are concerned. What, have we done more to America than Russia? Look: they are passionately trying to kiss them. It doesn't work, really. What are we worried about? We are happy for them when they hug and kiss. We just want honest, clean, transparent relationships. If you don’t want to, let them tell us about it. And they don’t shout: “Oh, Pompeo has arrived.” Tomorrow Trump will arrive... What will they do?” Lukashenko said.
