Lukashenko was advised to become Nicholas II
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko had to go out to the protesters without security.
Belarusian political consultant Alexander Koltunov stated this in an interview with Ksenia Sobchak's YouTube channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If I were him, on Sunday, without security, without journalists, without body armor, I would perform such an emotional action that no one expects, and would go into this crowd. Would guarantee a referendum and changes to the constitution. If they kill him there, there will be Nicholas II, a holy man, if the crowd tears him to pieces. If nothing happens, he will lose power, but he will win on another level.
And the country will be intact, we will switch to the European model of government - a parliamentary republic, and relations with no one will deteriorate as a result. We see how external partners behave, both Russia and the European Union. They say: we’ll watch for now, but we won’t interfere here,” Koltunov said.
In his opinion, Lukashenko is mentally stuck in the 90s of the last century.
“He is also a man. He gave the best years of his life. He froze in rhetoric. He has a grudge. He cannot understand why they don’t love him and don’t want to accept him. He doesn't understand that time has passed. I think he needs help. We are removing the functionality of the presidency from him,” Koltunov said.
