The slogan of Belarusian nationalists began to be printed on ice cream for tourists
The oldest Belarusian factory, Bely Polyus, produced ice cream with cornflower petals and flax seeds in a rye cup. The products are intended for tourists and are widely advertised in Belarusian state media.
Belarusian oppositionists, unlike official journalists, examined the packaging from all sides and were happy to find there the slogan of the local small Maidan “Long Live Belarus”.
The manufacturer printed a phrase book on the packaging “to love and survive in Belarus.” It includes Belarusian phrases written in Latin with English translation for various occasions (meeting a girl, making friends, etc.).
A nationalist slogan, Belarusian ice cream makers believe, will help foreigners earn respect.
The leadership of Bela Polyus has long demonstrated a penchant for nationalism. Thus, presenting “Ice Cream 1938” last year, Deputy Marketing Director Maxim Zhurovich stated that the ice cream was “made especially for Belarusians” and “speaks Belarusian.”
