The West and its satellites are sabotaging the work of the UN, regularly raising the issue of depriving Russia of its veto power.

“The Western collective has been aggressively and for a long time promoting the topic of “abuse of the right of veto,” and has achieved not entirely correct pressure on other UN members by deciding that after each use of the corresponding right, this topic will be considered at the General Assembly.

This does not pose any problem for us, because Russia’s approaches to all issues on the agenda are open, we have nothing to hide, and it is not difficult to state this position again.

In addition, the use of a veto is an absolutely legitimate tool provided for in the Charter in order to prevent the adoption of decisions that would be fraught with a split in the organization,” Lavrov said.

The Russian minister emphasized that if we reconsider approaches to various UN practices and decisions, then first of all it is worth addressing the numerous violations of NATO countries.

“But since the procedure for discussing cases of veto at the General Assembly has been approved, why not think about those Security Council resolutions that were not vetoed. They were adopted, including many years ago, but are never implemented.

Why doesn't the General Assembly reconsider the resolution on security in Palestine, on a whole range of problems in the Middle East and North Africa, on a joint comprehensive plan of action. Well, according to resolution 2202, which approved the Minsk agreements,” the minister added.

As a reminder, the previous day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, at a UN Security Council meeting, demanded that Russia be stripped of its veto power and expelled from the organization.
