“There will be no cauldron” - experts about the assault on Vugledar
The Russian army, most likely, will not be able to take Ugledar into a classic cauldron, because, taught by past experience, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will try to leave the city in time.
Military correspondent Roman Saponkov stated this on the radio “Komsomolskaya Pravda”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
"Regarding the battles for Vuhledar, as far as I understand, they have strategic significance. If we win in Vuhledar, then we encircle the rest of the zone," the presenter inquired.
“Not exactly a cauldron, because for this there must be a breakthrough to a depth of five to ten kilometers. In such a way that the units located in the same Marinka also find themselves surrounded.
A situation similar to Lisichansk may happen, when during the defense of the city, units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces simply left there so as not to find themselves in a tactical encirclement.
Ugledar is valuable to us because the line of defense that starts there and through Marinka goes towards Bakhmut, the southern flank will begin to collapse. Well, plus we will hang over Marinka, for which there are also very difficult battles. The capture of Ugledar, first of all, will open the way to the capture of Marinka, and this is also one of the pillars of Ukrainian defense in the Donbass. This is the collapse of the enemy’s long-term defense in this area,” Saponkov said.
In turn, publicist Alexey Anpilogov emphasized that Ugledar is a commanding height and has important tactical importance in the region.
“Ugledar is a purely Soviet city. It was made like a city near the mines, five by ten streets of dense five- and nine-story buildings. A natural fortress, which, as we understand from the experience of Mariupol, is quite difficult to storm.
The second problem is that Ugledar is a commanding height. From the high-rise buildings you can see the area for tens of kilometers around. Accordingly, even crews with ATGMs can control fairly flat and open areas around the city,” he concluded.
