Coronavirus will recede in the summer
The spread of the COVID-19 disease, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, will begin to decline in the summer.
This was stated in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta by the head of the laboratory of molecular virology of the Federal State Budgetary Institution Research Institute of Influenza named after. A.A. Smorodintsev of the Ministry of Health of Russia Andrei Komissarov, answering the question whether he can name the timing of the end of the epidemic in Russia.
“Most likely, the incidence will begin to decline in the summer, but it is likely that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes the disease COVID-19, will return to us in the fall. That is, it will not disappear, but will become seasonal. In 2009, humanity had to deal with the so-called swine flu (influenza virus A(H1N1)pdm09), now people get sick with it every year, but it has become less aggressive,” the doctor said.
He says that in addition to SARS-CoV-2, there are other coronaviruses that are seasonal.
“They are not dangerous, we get sick with them 3-4 times a year, but it is possible that in the past, when they appeared, they also caused a pandemic,” Komsarov does not rule out.
