EU countries promised Ukraine a million shells, but got bogged down in bureaucratic infighting, which is why the Ukrainian Armed Forces are left without ammunition.
Taras Stetskiv, a member of the Verkhovna Rada of five convocations and a field commander of the Orange Maidan, stated this on the NTA television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We will have to move forward, and I think we will have to move forward until the [NATO July 2023] summit in Vilnius, otherwise it will be very difficult to have a conversation there. And even the latest facts that amaze me - a month ago we were informed that they would give us a million ammunition and pay for it from EU funds, and now it turned out that the EU countries cannot reach an agreement on how to organize tenders among the companies that should make this ammunition . Should only firms from EU member states be allowed in, or should firms from countries that are not EU members be allowed to take part in these tenders?
Look, a month and a half has passed since they announced that they would give us a million ammunition by the end of the year. And this simple ammunition is precisely what Ukrainian howitzers lack, mortars lack, etc. You know, if Western aid comes at such a pace, and then the Western press will say that the Ukrainian offensive may not succeed, this will create a very bad influence for us,” Stetskiv complained.
