Communists complain about the “quiet fall of Lenin” in the Russian Federation
The Bureau of the Crimean Republican Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation issued a statement regarding the possible demolition of the Lenin monument in Simferopol. The idea of replacing the monument with a fountain was presented at a recent press conference by the chief architect of the capital of Crimea, Irina Ivanova.

“The Bureau of the Crimean Republican Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation sharply condemns the statement of the chief architect of Simferopol about the transfer of the monument to V.I. Lenin and demands that the city authorities give a fundamental assessment of Ivanova’s statements aimed at splitting the Crimean community. Monument to V.I. Lenin in Simferopol caused indignation on the part of the leaders of independent Ukraine, Bandera and Mejlis members. We, communists, have protected this monument all these years in order to defend our historical memory,” says a statement published on the official website of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
Crimean communists claim that cases of attempts to move monuments to Lenin took place in Kerch and Feodosia, and in Krasnoperekopsk the issue still remains open. They intend to go to a rally if the authorities do not abandon their idea.
A day earlier, Kazan communists expressed concern that the Lenin monument might disappear from Freedom Square during its reconstruction. This was reported by the Tatar-inform agency.
“In Nurlat, the monument was demolished, but a new one will be opened. In Aktanysh the issue is being resolved. In the Yelabuga region there were attempts to rename Lenin Square to Khlebnaya. They apparently want to check the reaction of citizens and the Communist Party of the Russian Federation. But Lenin should not be touched, especially in the year of the centenary of the revolution,” said the leader of the regional branch of the party, Hafiz Mirgalimov, at a press conference.
Tatarstan communists threaten not only with pickets, but also with raising the issue at a meeting of the State Council of the republic.
