The staff of the Kyiv Museum of Russian Art opposed its renaming - “this is not European”

Employees of the Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art are against its renaming and believe that it could become a political mistake.

This is stated in a statement published on October 5 on the museum’s website.

“The renaming of the museum “from above” is an unfortunate case of violation of the democratic principles that our state has declared and is trying to adhere to when choosing the path to Europe,” the statement said.

The team expressed concern that the Kiev City Council came up with the idea of ​​renaming the museum “Tereshchenko Gallery”. The museum calls for first thoroughly studying this issue, involving townspeople and specialists in its discussion, and taking into account the current political situation.

“Inappropriate and untimely renaming of the museum could become a political mistake,” the institution’s staff warned.

Let us remind you that in July the Kiev Museum of the Great Patriotic War was renamed, from the name of which the reference to the Great Patriotic War was removed. Now they are showing an exhibition about “heroes of the ATO.”
