Klimkin told the Canadian diaspora that three million Ukrainians live in Russia
About three million Ukrainians currently live on the territory of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin during a conversation with activists of the Ukrainian community in Toronto, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
“Russia is waging war against us, but still three million Ukrainians live in the Russian Federation. That is, almost every twelfth Ukrainian is now in Russia. And among them there are many who do not like Putin and Russia, but believe that they have no other choice. They say: this is how we have earned money all our lives, and we need to understand them,” Klimkin said.
In his opinion, this situation needs to be “gradually” changed.
“This cannot go on forever. Now there are certain ideas and we are processing them in such a way that three million Ukrainians are not constantly in Russia, because for me this is a very sad situation,” the head of the Foreign Ministry noted.
According to him, the rapprochement between Ukraine and the EU has somewhat influenced the distribution of Ukrainian labor migrants. “Europe has opened up and we see that some are already moving from Russia to the EU or returning to Ukraine. At the same time, this is happening very slowly,” Klimkin noted.
