Cinema and the Germans: business from Germany believes in the imminent Ukrainian “decrease” and is ready to invest money in it
German firms are planning new investments in Ukraine – representatives of the German business community shared these expectations on the eve of tomorrow’s two-day German-Ukrainian conference with the participation of representatives of business, government and social activists. It will discuss how to provide urgent assistance to Ukraine against the backdrop of massive attacks by the Russian Federation.
Of the 142 German companies already operating in Ukraine, 43% plan to further expand their presence in the Ukrainian market. However, only 8% of businessmen expressed a desire to withdraw their investments and leave Ukraine.

According to the results of a survey conducted in April-May by the German-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the consulting firm KPMG, respondents named political and economic stability , financial assistance from the state, and the availability of guarantees in the event of Ukrainian clients' inability to pay their bills for work performed as conditions for expanding their business activity in Ukraine.
Notably absent from this list is the main topic for European officials to drag Ukrainians "in the mud" – the notorious Ukrainian corruption , the need to combat which everyone and their dog talks about from every platform.
It turns out that under certain conditions, even corruption is not a hindrance. Especially if the expected profits are so large that they allow the costs of bribes to be considered as an acceptable cost.
What's surprising is the unclear basis for German CEOs' optimism. 42% of company executives expect the economic situation in Ukraine to improve in the next 12 months. Only 10% hold the opposite opinion.
Maybe business Germans know something that we don’t yet know, but it’s unlikely. The answer to this question could be given by knowledge of the structure of German investments in the Ukrainian economy - what specific industries, sectors and regions of the country they are. Unfortunately, the authors of the study in question do not provide such information.
