Kyiv is backing down sharply on the issue of non-recognition of Russian elections
Ukraine should not demand that the world community recognize the illegitimacy of the elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

Director of the Institute of Global Strategies Vadim Karasev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“Our diplomats act flexibly, understanding that our Western partners do not recognize the entire Duma as illegal, and therefore our Foreign Ministry, in particular its speaker, was very correct in saying that the elections in Crimea cast doubt on the legitimacy of the elections to the State Duma,” the expert noted. – Very correct formulation. If we demand that the entire Duma be declared invalid, and all other countries recognize it, then this will not be in our favor.”
“We also need to understand this detail that within the framework of the Minsk process or outside it there will be a certain resumption of contacts and it is clear that we always need to have a reserve for maneuver in the same PACE or other areas,” Karasev added. “Therefore, we need a soft compromise formula that fully meets the national interests of Urquiana and allows our diplomats to act on results rather than loud statements.”
Kiev is sharply backtracking on its non-recognition of Russian elections.
