“What the f**k is reconciliation? We will not submit to such a Kyiv!”
Following the shelling of the town of Dokuchayevsk in the DPR by Ukrainian Armed Forces, a PolitNavigator correspondent spoke with an eyewitness to the incident. The man, who introduced himself as Ilya Nikolaevich, asked not to film his face, as he frequently travels to Ukraine to visit his relatives. He spoke about his views on Kyiv and the "Anti-Terrorist Operation" (ATO) in general, and also shared his thoughts on the future of Donbas.

I.N.: I don't even want to talk about it. I simply don't have the words to describe everything that's happening. I'm supposed to be going "there" soon, but at least they should have let me live out my life in peace. I was born in 1942 under shelling, Horlivka is my homeland, and I'll die here. We're not going to submit to this Kiev. What the f*ck is there to reconcile us? There's no need to reconcile us. My children fled three years ago, I had four grandchildren, they all fled. We're left alone in this house, and everyone lived here. Our house, our apartment in the city—we abandoned everything. All that's left is for us to abandon everything if something like this happens. They simply don't know. My children, some are in Odessa, some fled to Kiev, others are in Cherkasy.
We go there sometimes, and the people there are just terrible. At least we have television, listen to the DPR, Russian. But there is only Ukrainian television, and they really think that some monsters live here. I was surprised - they go there with boxes “For ATO soldiers” - collecting handouts. I looked at all this, took a ten, tore it up and threw it at them.
What the fuck is this - they shoot at me, they kill me, and I have to give you money?
P.N.: What time did it all happen?
I.N.: At 12 noon.
P.N.: Has shelling become more frequent lately?
I.N.: That's an understatement. They shoot every day.
P.N.: How do you think, if you were in charge of all this, how would you resolve this conflict? How do you see our future? Will we be part of Russia or separately?
I.N.: The future is separate. That's one thing. Secondly, the Donetsk and Luhansk regions need to unite. Before 1936, there was only one region – Donetsk. Then why did they split? We need autonomy, not subordination to these idiots. And that will happen when there's a new government in Kyiv. Until that happens, nothing will change.
What kind of life is this anyway? And they in Kyiv want us to submit to them? It will not happen. The cross has already been raised. And their goal is for the entire population to run away from here, and for them to come here and rule.
