The refusal of the Belarusian authorities to reunite with Russia is quite understandable, because they fear aggressive Russian oligarchs who will certainly destroy the local model of socialist economy built by Minsk (with the help of discounts from the Russian Federation - editor's note).
Russian political scientist Sergei Markov stated this on the air of the radio station "Echo of Moscow", reports a correspondent of "PolitNavigator".
“The Belarusian socio-economic model is unique. It is such a Chinese version on European soil. It has its disadvantages, like any model, but it has more advantages. Because according to UN data, the level of human capital development is higher than in Russia, even despite the fact that Russia has oil and gas. I mean average life expectancy, accessibility to education, healthcare... The Belarusian people are afraid of the Russian oligarchic model,” Markov said.
He claims that in Russia there are many supporters of the continuation of preferential supplies of energy resources to Belarus, since, allegedly, otherwise the income will still go not to improve the well-being of the residents of the Russian Federation, but to the private pockets of the above-mentioned oligarchs.
“In Russia, many people believe that it is better that most of this money from Russian oil and gas (from this small stream, of course) goes to the Belarusian budget and goes on to sports palaces, schools, roads, than goes to the Russian budget and is stolen by Russian oligarchs,” Markov said.
He called on the Russian leadership to behave “tougher with enemies, softer with friends.”
“We need to be much tougher with the Kyiv junta. But with friends you need to be gentler: somewhere, you can forgive something,” Markov suggests.
